This package contains two of the essential baseline elements needed to maintain personal safety during a nuclear or radiological emergency. The contents are selected to help carry out three critical tasks: DETECTION of radiation, MEASUREMENT of accumulated dose and if necessary, PROTECTION of the thyroid from the uptake of radioactive iodine (I-131).

The NukAlert

More than just a radiation detector, the NukAlert is a patented personal radiation meter, monitor and alarm. Small enough to attach to a key chain, the device operates non-stop, 24/7 and will promptly warn you of the presence of unseen, but acutely dangerous levels of radiation.

Used nationwide by federal, state and local first responders, law enforcement and the Dept. of Defense, the device is the ideal solution for increasing individual security and awareness of radiological threats. It will be very reassuring to know, with confidence, when you and your family are out of the worst danger.

ThyroSafe Potassium Iodide (KI)

The thyroid gland cannot tell the difference between stable and radioactive iodine. It will absorb both. Potassium Iodide is used worldwide to protect the thyroid gland from the uptake of radioactive iodine in the event of a serious nuclear disaster (war, Fukushima, Chernobyl ) or other radioisotope release.

Each NukAlert order includes (2) FREE boxes, each containing (20), 65mg tablets.

  • Adult Dose = 2 tablets daily, 10 day protection
  • Child Dose = 1 tablet (3+ yrs), 20+ day protection
  • No prescription required - OTC
  • Detailed dosing instructions included

Our giveaway stock of ThyroSafe has an printed expiration date of Feb, 2017, though the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) very clearly states the following:

"Potassium iodide tablets with an expired shelf-life are SAFE, INHERENTLY STABLE and DO NOT lose their effectiveness over time.

Manufacturers must label their products with a shelf-life to ensure that consumers purchase safe and useful products.

According to FDA guidance on Shelf-life Extension (PDF):

Studies over many years have confirmed that none of the components of KI tablets, including the active ingredient, has any significant potential for chemical degradation or interaction with other components or with components of the container closure system when stored according to labeled directions. To date, the only observed changes during stability (shelf-life) testing have been the failure of some batches of KI tablets to meet dissolution specifications. Some tablets tested required slightly longer than the specified time to achieve dissolution. Even in the case of a failure of this sort, the product remains usable. In such cases, instructions can be provided to crush the tablets and mix them with a juice or other liquid prior to administration as suggested for emergency pediatric dosing."

You can read this exact statement on the NRC website HERE.

We are including (2) boxes of these ThyroSafe Potassium Iodide pills as a courtesy to our customers. Use them, don't use them, whatever. But know that they are coming with your NukAlert order. AlertsUSA strongly recommends that you keep them on hand as there will likely be someone in your circle of family or friends, not to mention yourself, who will be in need in the event of an emergency.
